Letters Page

A seasonally appropriate set of cold starting instructions
issued to Foden drivers for both Gardner and Foden engines has been sent in by regular contributor Mr Brian Lomas.

Richard Nixon has found a number of similarities between the operation of a Pratt & Whitney 2 row 18 cylinder radial aircraft engine and the Foden 8 & 12 speed gearboxes. He has supplied a Pratt & Whitney diagram of the epicyclic reduction gearing, used in the engine.

A Foden FC20 crane carrier restoration is Mr Vic Makey's current project & subject of his letter. The photographs that accompany the letter show he really has taken on a massive restoration. Best of luck Vic.

 My Foden Years

Having written an article for the July Issue (No 56) "30 years in the job for Jone'r" (David Jones of New Mills Cheshire) Phil decided to write in with the story of his Foden years. The article started with his employment with Sam Longsons of Chaple-en-le-Frith in 1968. He goes onto describe and provide picture's of an S21 eight wheeler HNU530C  that careered into a row of shops in Buxton in 1969. I really enjoyed this article I worked for Longsons and live a 5 minute walk from the row of shops.
